City BBQ (third visit)
I know what you are all thinking. "Does this man eat anywhere else?" I had to laugh today when I walked in thinking, here we go again. I was treated out to lunch by my friend Patrick (thanks man), so I decided to try some new stuff for a review. This will probably be my last review here for some time (let's hope 🤞).
Today I had the Nashville Hot chicken sandwich, mac and cheese, hush puppies, corn pudding, and peach cobbler.
The Nashville sandwich is a spicy fried chicken breast, topped with creamy slaw, pickles, and Nashville hot mayo on a griddled bun. I thought the sandwich was fried well and was a thick piece of chicken. The spice was equivalent to their Brush Fire bbq sauce. The Nashville mayo had some kick to it, but it wasn't an uncomfortable hot. The pickles were crunchy and gave the sandwich an extra crunch. The coleslaw gave the sandwich extra flavor, but I could do without it. My bun was grilled, and buttered and tasted better than the one I had with the pulled pork. I tried the sandwich with the original bbq sauce, which turned it up a notch!
The mac and cheese was
disappointing. My initial bite was, "oh it's cheesy" and that was it.
This side dish lacked flavor or seasoning. Initially, I thought it was
Stouffers, but I've had better from Stouffers. I hate to bash any dish, but it
wasn't good.
I honestly didn't know
what to think about the corn pudding, but I was glad I ordered it. It was like
whole corn and cream corn had a baby and deliver it in Jiffy cornbread. 😂 The dish was creamy and the cornbread was good. I'm putting
this side on my must-have list. Patrick also gave a
thumbs-up on the corn pudding. Definitely worth a try!
In my last review, I
talked about the hush puppies. They were hot, had a nice crunch on the outside,
soft on the inside. I feel like there should be some type of dipping sauce with
these. I'm going to ask next time if they have any. Again these are on my must-have list.
I have been curious
about the peach cobbler, although since trying the banana pudding, I was
nervous and skeptical, but decided to give it a shot. The dish was more cobbler
than peach and my initial taste Patrick and I both thought it tasted like there
was pineapple in it. They gave me a dollop of whipped cream but that did not
help. I didn't even finish the dish and I split half of it with Patrick. That
right there says everything!
One thing I spoke about,
in my first review was things that I could see being problematic. I could
absolutely see that during this visit. It was busy, and there were not many
open places to sit. After we ordered I noticed several tables that needed to be
cleaned. I went and found the cleanest out of the few that were open and
cleaned it myself. There is an employee that walks around to make sure
everything is ok, and even took away our plates, but walked by the dirty tables
and did not clean anything. During my time there I did not see anyone attend to
the tables. We even got up before we were completely done to give someone our
table since it was clean.
Another issue was the
few bottles of BBQ sauce. There is seven bottles of sauce for the restaurant.
Some of them barely had sauce in them, and one bottle had sauce running over
the bottle. I wanted some original bbq sauce, and when I grabbed the bottle it
did not feel right. I felt like there was a coating on the bottle, and I immediately
went and washed my hands. They also ran out of forks, and I saw the employee
bring out more holding them all in his hands with no gloves on. I understand
they have not even been open for two weeks and are still trying to figure
things out. Keeping the interior clean, and stocked is a Must.
