City BBQ (second visit)
City BBQ
Back at it, day two. I had such a good experience, I had to come back the next day to try something different. CB had some hits and misses. It was later in the evening, and I didn’t want to go into the restaurant so I decided to order online. Upon completion of payment, CB sends a curbside pickup text. I responded to the text, “Here” once I arrived, but noticed that I was not in the right location. By the time I drove over to the curbside pickup the City BBQ employee was already outside with my food in hand. That was a definite plus!
Made it home and the food was hot, and I was ready to eat! I ordered their Two Meat selection. This came with a choice of two types of meat and Texas toast (sides are an additional price). I ordered the smoked turkey, and smoked brisket, and added sides of beans and hush puppies.
I love hush puppies so I was excited to try that first. The hush puppies were delicious; crispy, and had great flavor. These are now on my, "must-have" list.
The smoked turkey was moist and had a subtle smoked flavor to it. I wish they sold the turkey with the skin on it. There is nothing like smoked turkey skin for additional flavor!
I have never been one for brisket, but I wanted to try it out. CB did not disappoint! The brisket had a wonderful smokey flavor, and the burnt edges were fantastic and overall very moist. A definite winner in my book!
Another must-have was the baked beans. They had a sweet flavor, with a hint of BBQ, and pieces of brisket mixed in. Trust me the beans will not disappoint! Another item on the "must have" list.
A very huge miss was the Texas Toast. I was excited to try it after tasting everything else, and my experience was everything but delightful. The toast reminded me of an old hot dog bun. The bread was dense, dry, and lacked flavor. I was shocked that this actually made the menu, but from my experience yesterday with the pulled pork bun, CB does not seem to know much about bread, or good-tasting bread.
City BBQ can be pricey if you order a la carte like I did. I spent an average of $20 between my two meals. I think one of the best buys is to get the Family Pack. For around $27 you can get enough food to feed a family of four. I call this the two-day meal. Enough for a lunch and two dinners (just for me). The pack comes with a pound of meat, two pint-sized sides, and cornbread.
Overall another positive trip. I look forward to trying out more items next week.
Let me know your thoughts!
